Umrah checklist: a free printable preparation and packing list
Preparing for Umrah involves a lot of small, practical jobs. Getting them done early leaves your mind free for worship when you arrive.
This list covers practical preparation only. Please learn the rites of Umrah from a qualified teacher. Visa, permit and health requirements change, so check official Saudi sources and your travel agent for the current rules.

Three months or more before
- Check your passport is valid for long enough (ask your agent or check the visa platform)
- Choose dates, and a trusted agent or group if you are not travelling alone
- Check visa and permit requirements on official sources
- Ask your doctor or a travel clinic about any vaccinations you need
- Start learning the steps of Umrah with a teacher
- Set a budget
One month before
- Book or confirm flights and hotels in Makkah and Madinah
- Arrange travel insurance
- Buy ihram clothing and try it on
- Plan who will look after home, work and bills while you are away
Two weeks before
- Download any official apps you need and log in
- Print or save copies of all documents
- Tell your bank you are travelling
- Collect du’a requests from family and friends
- Pack a trial bag and check its weight
The day before
- Charge your phone and power bank
- Put documents in one travel wallet
- Confirm airport transfer times
- Rest

- Hotel confirmations for Makkah and Madinah
- Travel insurance policy and emergency number
- Any certificates or permits you have been asked for

Ihram and clothing
- Ihram clothing (men: two sheets and a spare set; women: modest everyday clothing)
- Belt or pouch for ihram
- Comfortable sandals or shoes suited to a lot of walking
- Everyday clothes for after Umrah
- Light layer for air-conditioned buildings
Toiletries
- Unscented soap, shampoo and deodorant for ihram
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Nail clippers and small scissors (in checked luggage)
- Small towel
Health
- Your own regular medicines, in their original packaging
- Plasters and blister care
- Sun hat or umbrella, and unscented sunscreen
- Reusable water bottle
- Anything your doctor suggested
Worship and travel
- Small pocket Quran or app, and your du’a list
- Prayer mat (optional)
- Power bank and plug adapter
- Small backpack or cross-body bag
- Shoe bag for carrying shoes inside
